The Annual Earth Day Clothing Swap
It’s getting hot in here, so donate all your clothes!
At Mixy’s 5th Annual Earth Day Clothing Swap we collected over 30 huge bags of clothes, shoes, and blankets to share within our community through Homebase. We swapped for new looks, slipped on fresh juice from Plant Bar Cafe (a local juice bar) and saved tons of textiles from landfills in celebration of Earth Day 2025. The rest of your unclaimed clothing will head to free giveaway events for those in need and may even end up at The Peoples Closet in MPLS where anyone can grab what they need. Thank you to Springboard for the Arts for hosting in their sunny and artistic space and to everyone for joining us and contributing to this event! 🌎❤️
Swap til you drop for Earth Day!
In celebration of Earth Day on Monday, April 22, 2025, we hosted our 5th Annual Clothing Swap, where our community of swappers just keeps growing! It was the perfect opportunity to wrap up some spring cleaning and trade extra, gently used clothes for fresh finds.
A clothing swap offers a fun and sustainable way to refresh your wardrobe. Simply gather items you no longer need, whether from last year or any season, and bring them to exchange. You’ll be able to explore piles of treasures from other fashion-forward individuals, all without spending a dime. It's fashion recycling at its best, and it’s a great way to make a positive impact while scoring new looks!

Benefits of swapping
Swapping your clothes comes with significant environmental benefits! First and foremost, it promotes slow fashion, a movement that values quality, sustainability, and mindful consumption over the wastefulness of fast fashion. The fast fashion industry is responsible for around 10% of global carbon emissions and creates millions of tons of textile waste each year. By participating in a clothing swap, you actively help reduce this waste, preventing perfectly good clothing from ending up in landfills.
Clothing swaps also contribute to building a circular economy, where resources are reused and recycled instead of being discarded. This keeps clothing in circulation longer, reduces the demand for new production, and conserves natural resources. Not only will you get to score some fresh wardrobe pieces without spending a dime, but you'll also be reducing your environmental footprint in the process.
And the benefits don’t stop there! Any leftover items from the swap will be donated to a local charity, ensuring that nothing goes to waste and contributing to those in need. It’s truly a win-win for you, the community, and the planet! So, by swapping instead of shopping, you're not just updating your closet—you're making a positive impact on the world around you.

Where your clothing ends up
At the end of each Earth Day Clothing Swap, any unclaimed items are generously donated to Homebase, a Minneapolis-based organization dedicated to providing clothing and essential goods to people experiencing homelessness year-round. By partnering with Homebase, we ensure that all unclaimed clothing from the swap goes to those in need, extending the life of every item while supporting our local community. This collaboration amplifies the swap's positive impact, not only reducing waste but also making a meaningful difference in the lives of unhoused individuals in the Twin Cities.
